Plain Text QR Code Generator

Not every QR code needs to send someone to a website. This one just shows text — instructions, a serial number, a short note — directly on the scanning phone's screen, with nothing to load and no internet connection required at scan time.

Why use text instead of a link?

A text QR code is self-contained: the phone's camera decodes the message directly from the image, with no request sent anywhere. That makes it a good fit for care instructions on a product tag, a WiFi-free equipment manual excerpt, a warranty or return policy printed on packaging, or a short note on event signage — anywhere you want the information to work even if the person scanning has no signal.

Keep it short

QR codes can hold a few thousand characters of plain text, but the more you pack in, the denser and harder-to-scan the resulting grid becomes, especially at small print sizes. For anything longer than a short paragraph, consider a link to a full page instead (see our URL QR code generator).

Frequently asked questions

Will scanning this open a browser?

No. Most camera apps show plain text right in the scan preview, with an option to copy it — no browser tab opens, unlike a URL code.

Does it need an internet connection to scan?

No. The text is embedded directly in the code's pattern, so it works completely offline once it's downloaded and printed.

Is there a character limit?

Practically, keep it under a few hundred characters for a code that's easy to scan at normal print sizes. Longer text works but produces a denser, harder-to-scan pattern.
